dentro l’ombra
I grew up accompanying my father to the theatres where he worked, traveling on tours and attending festivals, and getting to know stagehands and actors. I have always been fascinated by this world of art and technical skill, especially the behind-the-scenes work. For this reason, I have chosen to highlight the craftspeople who work in the shadows and make each performance possible. They are the theatre’s guardians, preserving its customs, symbols, and traditions.
Stagehands engage most deeply with this space. Behind the scenes, their presence is evident in the tools and instruments designed to support their work, as well as in objects created purely for the joy of making. These items, often hidden from view, transform the workspace into an invisible set design.
All these elements contribute to creating that magically surreal atmosphere in which you are immersed when you enter the hubbub of a stage being set up or the absolute silence of the backstage area during a performance, but also, and undoubtedly, when you sit in the stalls or the gallery to witness the ultimate goal: The Show.
